Do you have the attitude for altitude? On Sunday, July 8, test your abilities by participating in the tenth annual Washburn Challenge. All funds raised support science, technology, engineering and mathematics education at the Museum of Science. Participants must be 18 years of age or older.
Be a mountaineer for the Museum! One ascent and one descent of the Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail takes approximately 8-9 hours.
Fundraising minimum: $1,000.
Test your endurance with a double ascent of Mount Washington. Hike up the Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail to the summit of Mount Washington, down Tuckerman Ravine to Hermit Lake Shelter, then repeat the route in reverse.
Fundraising minimum: $4,000
The deadline to register is June 8, but please begin your training schedule early. Participants: check out a suggested equipment list as you prepare your pack and review training suggestions.
Join the Hiking Resource Team as a:
Leads a group of climbers along a designated course. Duties include checking in with Museum spotters at designated points, knowing the location of each member of your group at all times, and providing basic first aid if necessary. Must have current first-aid certification, White Mountains hiking experience, and prior demonstrated group hike leadership skills.
Checks in hikers at designated points along the trail. Duties include confirming hiker arrival with accurate timekeeping, knowing the approximate location of each group, and providing basic first aid if necessary. Previous hiking experience required. Current first-aid certification, and basic first aid skills preferred. Duties may also include, but are not limited to, transporting hikers, provisions, and first-aid materials to and from trailheads.
HAM Radio Operator
Monitor hikers’ positions throughout event. Duties include communicating relevant information to fellow operators and maintaining offical event timeline. Must have valid FCC license. Limited positions available, two of which require significant trail hiking with gear.
